Prayer on Broadway Street

By Emily Scott

A couple of girls and I had the chance to prayer walk down a street filled with strip clubs. We did some walking and also some sitting at a bus stop. We were encouraged to be praying for the girls who were working in the clubs as well as the men coming in for their services.

The atmosphere was so relaxed and comfortable with this type of activity that it was disturbing and sickening. We left with tears in our eyes and heavy hearts. Because we knew that these girls were our age and living a life of sin and might not have even known it.

We learned that 98 percent of these girls don't want to be working in the clubs! And the same percentage have been victimized 3 times before the age of eighteen. We also learned that many of the girls working in these clubs have kids and they provide for their families by selling themselves.

Overall, it was disheartening to see that for so many, the clubs are a way of life for the bouncers, the girls and the men coming in to buy their services. And all we could do was pray, and so we did. We left all we had, a sweet aroma of Christ in the air from the breath of our prayers.

  1. I can't imagine the weight of all of your hearts after seeing so much in so little time. Been praying for all of you...especially Jacque and Emily (thanks for asking me to pray for you two speicifically! I love being your prayer partner) :)

  2. I read a couple verses this morning that totally tie into your experience.

"For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline."

Your experience pretty much explains these verses to me. Have fun washing windows and toilets today.

PS - Tell Jeremiah I say "hi!"
