A First Reaction from the Streets of the Tenderloin

By Jody Workman

Our first day was overwhelming humbling and exciting. We went out to the streets of the Tenderloin as the street activity was picking up. All of us were humbled by this opportunity many of us were overwhelmed with what we saw and heard.

A group of girls, our students age, were on a street corner with their pimp, our students cried as they tried to process this.

One group was able to share the gospel and hope we have in Jesus! All of the students went up to someone on the streets to talk pray and listen. All of us came back to YWAM challenged. We were exhausted from being up 21 hours but excited knowing God is working in and through us.

We teasure your prayers and are humbled at the opportunity. Our students have been blessed with an abundance of gifts from our great God. He is using each one of them and changing us all so that we can reflect Him.

Todays agenda:

- Church
- Sack Lunch with homeless at Haight Street (hippie hill)
- Evangelism Scavenger Hunt
- Hot Chocolate Evangelism

  1. We had an amazing time of worship this morning at church, and Matt lead us in "God of this City". I just wept as I pictured what you all must be seeing, but knowing that Our God is also the God of San Francisco and you are all showing the Light to the Darkness, the Hope to the Hopeless and the Peace to the Restless! Lifting you all in Prayer!

  2. Thank you so much for the update, Jody! We are simply amazed at the opportunities God is giving you all, and we pray that you will be the "aroma of Christ" to each and every person you come in contact with this week! Lots of love to all of you!!! Jamie and Carrie Sansom

  3. Wow, what a full day. Thanks, Jody, for all you do for Student Ministries and going on this trip with our students. It seems as if the culture shock has already given the teams the eyes of Jesus.

Just an update on HSM: Josh Graber came home and led music worship for everyone in the SMC lobby. He did really well, accompanied by Andrew Simms and Benekos. Randy preached and did great. And of course, the cafe rocked :)

  4. Welcoming Josh home for a visit after 18 months away and releasing Rachelle to this first step in discovering God's heart for the world, knowing that it could someday lead to yet another child choosing an 18 month (or longer) seperation made for an emotional yet satisfying weekend for the Graber mom. It is an honor to be the parent of a young person who is following hard after God. We are praying for you and the team, Rachelle!
